The problem
Untreated sewage and industrial runoff continue to flow into Bellandur Lake. We ask BBMP and the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board to commission the promised sewage treatment capacity and publish monthly water-quality reports.
Bellandur is Bengaluru's largest lake, spread across nearly 900 acres. Residents have documented foam overflowing onto Yamalur Road, recurring fish deaths and a persistent stench affecting homes, schools and offices along its shores.
In 2023, authorities committed to expanding sewage treatment capacity in the catchment. Three years on, monitoring data shared by citizens shows inlet water still fails basic dissolved-oxygen standards.
What we are asking for
- Commission the pending 150 MLD treatment capacity before June 2027.
- Publish monthly water-quality readings at all five inlets on a public website.
- Hold a quarterly open meeting with residents' welfare associations.

Updates
Joint inspection scheduled for 3 October
BBMP and KSPCB officials have agreed to a joint site inspection at the Yamalur inlet. Two representatives from our forum will accompany them. We will share the inspection notes here.
Acknowledgement of petition
The petition has been received and forwarded to the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board for technical review of STP capacity in the Bellandur catchment. A response will be issued within 30 working days.
